Kūmarahou is an important and versatile traditional Māori rongoā used as a general tonic to treat chest complaints; coughs, colds, bronchitis, asthma, arthritis, menstrual pain, blood purification and liver cleansing.
The expectorant properties of Kūmarahou make her an excellent rongoā to clear the lungs - she will loosen the mucous. Kūmarahou is a vulnerary rongoā, and is also effective for soothing and healing skin irritations, sores, wounds and rashes.
Kūmarahou flowers contain saponins and flavonoids, traditionally used to treat respiratory ailments, coughs and colds. Also known as gum-diggers' soap, early gum diggers used the flowers lathered in water, to clean their hands.
Kawakawa is a powerful, reliable and effective rongoā for treating a multitude of conditions. Taken orally, Kawakawa’s stimulating and rejuvenating properties help with digestive problems such as indigestion, cramps and bloating, inflammation and infections, joint and muscle discomfort, internal and external skin conditions, circulation, chilblains, coughs and colds, bronchitis, worm infestations, gonorrhea & syphilis, general fatigue and lack of energy.
Tātarāmoa (Rubus cissoides) is an effective, calming rongoā rakau that works as a relaxant on our nervous system - Tātarāmoa can help calm our minds when we're feeling anxious.
Kānuka has antimicrobial, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory minor wounds, acne, burns, bruises and properties and can be used to help heal fungal conditions of the nails or skin. Traditionally Māori used Kānuka for skin, respiratory and digestive ailments.
