Nettle is a nutritious and highly versatile plant that contains natural histamine that can relieve seasonal allergies. Nettles are a decongestant and reduce excess mucus conditions.
Nettle can be used as a long term allergy preventative as well as for acute symptoms associated with allergies or sinus infections. Taken one to two months before allergy season, nettle tincture can be extremely effective in preventing and alleviating allergy symptoms. Inflammatory asthma can also be alleviated with the use of nettle leaf tincture. Nettle is recognised as a powerful cleansing herb that is also used in the treatment of rheumatism, gout, kidney stones and eczema.

Nettle can be prepared as a tea or infusion. Teas are made by steeping flowers, leaves and stems in boiled water for 10 - 15 minutes. Infusions are similar to teas, but the herbs are steeped longer, in hot water, so that they are stronger than teas. Steep for 4 hours or longer. Decoctions are made by bringing roots, barks and hard berries to boil in water. Steep with the lid on for a further 5 minutes.
Into a plunger, infuser or china teapot place a teaspoon of herb to 250mls of boiled water. For full therapeutic benefit, take 3 cups per day for three months, otherwise enjoy a refreshing cup of herbal tea any time of the day.
